Patrick was arrested on 30th January 2004, at Mumbai airport. When he was arrested, he was not told why he was arrested and he was certainly never found with any drugs on him nor in his luggage. The facts that surround Patrick's case are unbelievable and as time goes on he is suffering more and more. When Patrick was taken from Mumbai airport by the Rajasthani transport police he was kept hidden from a lawyer, the british high commission and was not told of his rights. You can read his letter below asking for help in which he describes in detail the TORTURE he was dealt.

Although this is hard for us a family to endure we are deeply concerned for Patrick's welfare mentally and physically. If you would like to write to him, his address is Patrick Malluzzo, Kota central Jail, Kota, Rajasthan, India.

We also have Catherine Wolthuizen, Sabine Zanker & their staff from the charity Fair Trials International helping Patrick (and us) along with Joe Stone (of Doughty Street Chambers) and his colleague Priya Patel. Without the help of these people, we would not know what to do or who to turn to. We do not feel that Patrick's welfare is being looked after properly and urge the british government to step in and get his appeal heard and his conviction overturned.

I have asked friends and family to write some words, which are:

Patrick, our son, you were always rushing here there and everywhere, no sooner were you home from one adventure you decided to go on another, the last being to India. You had fulfilled your child hood dream to travel and see the world, you embraced all the places you visited with respect and kindness to all the people you encountered along the way - calling most of them your mates. Of all the places you visited you loved India and her people the most. We believe in your innocence, and son we promise you this we will do all we can to bring you home sooner rather than later. We love you so much and want nothing more than for you to be reunited with us. All our love Mum & Dad.

My brother Patrick, we became friends a couple of years ago when I was in prison you came to me and gave me a Bible and shared your food with me. I was lonely and had nobody there, you came along and showed me true kindness and since then on we have been true brothers. You know how much I love you and want to see you reunited with your family. I made a promise that day that I would always be there for you and I am. Remember to Praise the Lord and be strong and you will be rewarded. With Love and Prayers Samuel, Shiny, Sheba & Feba.

What can I say about my brother, we used to work together at Kleinwort Benson in an office in London, we sat opposite each other and would laugh for no reason every time we caught one another's eye. He is very protective, a lovely, kind, funny person who will always stand up for those wronged. He is Godfather to my eldest son who misses him dearly, Pat is a ladies man he loved travelling and has seen some sights. The one thing I know is that anyone who has ever met Patrick never forgets him and they are immediately his friend, he gets along with anyone and everyone. His nice qualities are that he is caring, funny, always looking for an excuse to meet the girls and even took my eldest son when he was 3 years old to the cinema as a ploy to meet girls. He is a good laugh, always joking and even through all this he can still laugh at the crappy jokes I send him and still write some letters in good spirits. He has so many funny stories one I'll not forget was at my cousin Tracy's wedding when he was enjoying himself a little too much and was supposed to go home but ended going back into the wedding five minutes later arms open wide, with a big grin on his face, saying "I'm back". So there you go my brother. Mirella Malluzzo (Sister)

I am very proud to be Patrick's aunt. I have watched him grow up and one of the things that stands out for me is he is a champion for the underdog. He would not tolerate an injustice done to friends, family even strangers, and I love him for it. He always made me laugh, even now his letters still do. When all this first happened to him, he was comforting me from his prison cell. Patrick Malluzzo is an innocent man and there is an injustice being done to him. He needs a champion to bring him home. Bridget Martenstyn (Aunt)

Just a words to describe my nephew Patrick. When Patrick was young, he used to come over here to Callan in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland on summer holidays. He used to have great fun here. He enjoyed the simple life here in Ireland and enjoyed coming out to my brother - in - laws farm, he loved the animals and always had great respect for them. My sister Teresa, Patrick's mother, oftentimes had to search for him to bring him back to his grandmothers house after a day visiting me and my family, he always looked for excuses to stay on, the farm. Patrick loved the countryside. My children remember Patrick as always being very nice to them and every time he meets up with me and my wife Rita, he shows the greatest respect. Patrick is a very good nephew to us and a great brother to his sisters and a very obedient son to his parents. Patrick is a very fine fellow and I hope to see him home very soon. Love Paschal Grace (Uncle)

Patrick and I have known each other since school, which is now a very long time ago!! I was a year older than Patrick so I didn’t really get to know him until i started the same college as him after a year out. Our friendship really grew from there after spending probably too long down the college local.....after a few beers we became mates and our friendship grew from there. Patrick was always there for me, through particularly tough times, my mum's illness to name one, but there have been many others. If I ever had a problem then he was the first person i could rely on 100%, and i knew that then. Patrick met my friends and we all started socialising as a group and we all became pretty much inseparable. I think we all appreciated the friendships we had with each other. It's hard to explain but Patrick was like a breath of fresh air, he liked a good laugh but he had his head well and truly screwed on, and was always independent and strong minded, which at that age is a rare thing and something which I learnt from. I think his strength was proven, when he decided to follow his dream on his own and see the world, starting with Australia, which takes guts and determination. Before he left Patrick wrote a letter to us as a group of friends, which I have managed to dig out.

"To the Crew
I have never met such a blinding bunch of people as you lot. I consider myself the luckiest bloke around to have you all as my friends and I will miss you like mad. You don't know how close I am to not going because I love you all and hope you don't forget about me. I am going to go and show them what we are all about. Stick together and I will see you when I get back or if you come for a holiday in Australia. Big up Love Pat." That says it all about how Patrick see's his mates and what we mean to him. We should not forget about him. I keep asking myself would he forget about me?? And every time I know the answer! A letter must mean so much to him and takes so little of our time. Please keep Patrick in your thoughts and let him know you are there for him. What has happened to Patrick is a travesty and he does not deserve to be suffering the way he is, bring Patrick, my mate home. Matthew Lee

Pat is a great mate, one of the best people you could meet who'd do anything for a friend.

We grew up with Patrick; he's is & has always been one of the sweetest guys I know, ready with a cheeky joke & grin. I miss him & I just want him free. Tracy Martenstyn (cousin)

First met Patrick when he joined our Department within the Private Bank at Kleinwort Benson circa June1999 where he remained for two and a half years. After Patrick resigned from work to go travelling for the first time I remained in regular contact until I lost touch because of his arrest in India. Since I have known Patrick I have always found him to be a reliable and trustworthy individual. He was an extremely loyal and well liked person with a wide circle of friends. I socialised regularly with both Patrick and his friends and he had absolutely nothing to do with drugs, in fact they were an alien culture to him. Patrick really enjoyed travelling to broaden his horizons and indeed visited several interesting countries in between temping in various jobs to finance his travels, like many people of his age at the time. Patrick was a fun loving character who enjoyed practical jokes and was extremely good company and popular with his peers. From an Italian and Irish background it was only natural that Patrick inherited many of the good qualities that individuals from those countries possess. He had a strong sense of family values, was very charitable and extremely loyal to family and friends. He would always help somebody in need and it is now ironic that such a good person has been the victim of this miscarriage of justice. Patrick came from a loving and caring family and it is an absolute tragedy that this injustice has happened to both himself and them. I hope and pray that this misery may come to an end soon. An Indian person would not be treated like this in the United Kingdom yet the British Government is apparently doing very little to protect its citizens abroad - FERGAL GRIFFIN
